Bus and Coach Hire in Oakleigh: Local Charter from Our Oakleigh Depot

School runs, university shuttles, wedding and airport transfers, sports team buses, corporate shuttles, and aged-care outings, all dispatched from our depot right here in the suburb.

Why Choose Quinces in Oakleigh?

Oakleigh is where Quinces is based. The Quinces Coaches depot sits at 76 Atkinson Street, in the middle of the suburb, which means a coach is on your pickup point in minutes. There is no driving in from another part of Melbourne, no dead running time built into your quote, and no excuses for a late departure. When a wedding party needs to leave a reception on Atherton Road at 11pm, or a club bus needs to roll out of Jack Edwards Reserve at 7am on a Saturday, the coach is already in the suburb.

Quinces has run from this location since 1944, now as part of Australian Transit Group. The fleet is maintained to Victorian Bus Safety accredited standards and every vehicle appears on the Safe Transport Victoria Public Register, which is the register schools and government procurement teams are required to check before signing a charter contract. Every driver holds a current Working with Children Check and police clearance. The business holds ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) certification, and Quinces is an accredited bus operator and a member of BusVic. For groups booking in Oakleigh, that standard of compliance is available at the shortest possible dispatch time.

Quinces runs Melbourne bus charter and coach hire services across Melbourne's south-east, dispatched from the Oakleigh depot.

The Oakleigh we work out of

Most operators write about a suburb from the outside. Oakleigh is where the coaches sleep, so the geography here is the yard, not a service area on a map. From the gate at 76 Atkinson Street it is about a kilometre to Eaton Mall, 1.8 km to Oakleigh station and 1.7 km to Chadstone. Nothing in the suburb is a drive.

Eaton Mall is the part of Oakleigh most people picture. It has been a pedestrian strip since 1977, running off Atherton Road, and the local historical society describes it as the heart of Greek cafe culture in Oakleigh, closer to a village square than a shopping street. It also has one feature that decides how every pickup there works, covered further down.

The civic side of the suburb sits along Drummond Street: the library at 148, the senior citizens centre at 142, and Warrawee Park at 99, which the council also lists as DW Nichol Reserve and which hosts its Live at Warrawee music afternoons. Atherton Road carries the older civic buildings, including the 1924 Oakleigh Post Office at number 3, now the Monash Federation Centre, and the former City of Oakleigh council chambers.

The rest is sport and schools. Jack Edwards Reserve on Edward Street and Warrawee Park carry the club grounds, and the recreation centre is on Park Road. Weekend club work and weekday school runs come out of those few streets, and all of them are closer to the depot than the depot is to the main road.

Who we move around Oakleigh

Quinces Coaches transports wedding parties, sports teams, aged-care residents, and corporate groups across Oakleigh, dispatched from our depot in the suburb.

Weddings and Events

Oakleigh has reception and function venues along Atherton Road and around the Eaton Mall precinct, where the restaurants and bars draw larger bookings for milestone events and end-of-year functions. Quinces runs guest coaches between ceremony locations, reception venues and hotels across greater Melbourne, with pickup points confirmed at the booking stage. With the depot in the suburb, a coach can be back for a second run quickly when guests leave at different times.

Sports

Jack Edwards Reserve on Edward Street is home to the Oakleigh Cannons Football Club and the Chisholm United Football Club, and Warrawee Park on Drummond Street, also listed as DW Nichol Reserve, is home to the Oakleigh Cricket Club. Both are minutes from the depot. Quinces runs team transport for clubs from local competition through to state tournaments, and clubs that travel regularly can set up a recurring booking with the office before the season.

Aged Care and Community

Oakleigh has residential aged care on and around Atherton Road, and Quinces runs social outings, day trips and special-event transport for aged care providers across the south-east. Wheelchair-accessible transport can be arranged and is confirmed at quote stage, along with any other mobility needs. Quinces also runs community transport for cultural and religious groups and not-for-profits, planned around each group's own calendar and pickup points.

Corporate

Oakleigh's commercial strip along Eaton Mall and the Atherton Road and Warrigal Road corridors has an established small-to-medium business presence. Quinces runs staff shuttles, off-site and conference transfers, and group transfers for corporate events across Melbourne's south-east. For Oakleigh-based businesses, a depot in the suburb shortens the wait for a coach, for short-notice bookings and airport group transfers alike, with the pickup point confirmed before the day.

Charter services

Quinces runs the following charter services from the Oakleigh depot, listed in the order that reflects where demand is strongest across the suburb.

Guest coaches between ceremony, reception and hotels, with return pickups for late finishes at Oakleigh venues. Eaton Mall is closed to vehicles, so the office nominates a pickup corner before the night.

Away games, state competitions, regional tournaments and pre-season travel for football, basketball, athletics and other codes, with convoys for full squads and recurring bookings for clubs that travel every week.

Aged-Care and Community Outings

Day trips and social outings for residential aged care, with wheelchair-accessible transport arranged at quote stage. Community charter covers cultural groups, religious organisations and not-for-profits.

Conference shuttles, off-site events, product launches and airport group transfers to Tullamarine and Avalon. Pre-scheduled routes suit workplaces that need staff collected from several pickup points.

Group transfers to Tullamarine and Avalon for sports teams, corporate delegations and incoming international groups. Melbourne Airport is about 42 km from the Oakleigh depot and Avalon about 70 km.

Day tours to the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Phillip Island, Great Ocean Road and Sovereign Hill. Each itinerary is built around your group's own schedule rather than a fixed departure calendar.

Year-level excursions, camps, interschool sport and end-of-year events for Oakleigh-area schools. Every vehicle is on the Safe Transport Victoria Public Register, which schools are required to check.

Oakleigh landmarks and pickup points

These are the Oakleigh addresses that come up most often on a charter booking. All of them are minutes from the depot, so a staging point can be confirmed and, if it turns out to be wrong on the day, changed.

  • Eaton Mall, the pedestrian strip running off Atherton Road
  • Oakleigh railway station, and the bus interchange on Portman Street beside it
  • Warrawee Park at 99 Drummond Street, home ground of the Oakleigh Cricket Club and the site of the council's Live at Warrawee events
  • Jack Edwards Reserve at 22-38 Edward Street, home ground of the Oakleigh Cannons Football Club and the Chisholm United Football Club
  • Oakleigh Recreation Centre at 2 Park Road
  • Oakleigh Library at 148 Drummond Street and the Oakleigh Senior Citizens Centre at 142
  • Oakleigh Community Centre at 40 Haughton Road
  • The Monash Federation Centre at 3 Atherton Road, in the former Oakleigh Post Office of 1924

Reception venues, function rooms and aged care homes across the suburb are on the same short list of streets. Send the address with your quote request and the office confirms the staging point beforehand.

Getting a coach in and out of Oakleigh

The single most useful thing to know about Oakleigh pickups: a coach cannot drive into Eaton Mall. It has been closed to vehicles since 1977. Groups booking a restaurant or a function on the mall get collected from the surrounding streets, and the office nominates the corner before the day rather than leaving a driver circling while the group waits on a pedestrian strip.

The station is the other pinch point. Oakleigh sits on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines, and the stop on Portman Street beside it is served by ten bus routes, so the forecourt is genuinely busy with buses through the day. A charter coach staging there needs a spot that does not sit in a route bus bay. The station was rebuilt in July 2020, with a widened pedestrian underpass, new ramps and lifts, and a direct platform entrance from Haughton Road. That last one changed where a group waiting for a coach actually comes out.

Everything else is the ordinary advantage of being based here. The depot is in the suburb, so there is no dead running before a job starts and no mobilisation time in the quote. For airport work, Melbourne Airport is about 42 km from the gate and Avalon about 70 km. The CBD is about 19 km on the freeway, or about 17.5 km on the highway if the tolls matter more than the clock.

Group sizes we fit

Tell us how many people are in your group and we will match the right bus.

Quinces handles groups of almost any size, across a range of vehicle types. A small wedding party or a corporate team-building day may suit a minibus. A full sporting squad or a year-level school group heading on camp is a better fit for a touring coach. A small corporate team or an aged-care social group travels comfortably in a minibus with air conditioning.

You do not need to work out which vehicle type you need before calling. Give us the group size, the date, and the destination, and we will match the vehicle and send back a quote.

Why Oakleigh clients choose us

Quinces Coaches is the local bus and coach charter operator for Oakleigh, operating from our depot at 76 Atkinson Street within the suburb.

The depot at 76 Atkinson Street is the clearest differentiator. A late-night pickup after a wedding on Atherton Road, a 6am Saturday departure from Jack Edwards Reserve, or a mid-morning community outing from a residential aged care home in the suburb: in every case the coach is already in Oakleigh. Operators based elsewhere in Melbourne add travel time, and that time ends up in your quote or in a later-than-scheduled departure.

What separates Quinces from most Melbourne charter operators:

  • Accredited Bus Operator, with every vehicle on the Safe Transport Victoria Public Register for schools, councils and government agencies to check
  • BusVic member
  • ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 (OHS) certified, audited annually
  • Every driver holds a current Working with Children Check and police clearance, on every job rather than only school work

Quinces also runs bus hire in Clayton from the same Oakleigh depot.

Accreditation and track record

Quinces is an accredited Victorian bus operator under the Bus Safety Act 2009 and has run coaches out of Oakleigh since 1944. Every driver is fully licensed, police cleared, First Aid trained and holds a Working with Children Check.

Groups across Oakleigh and the surrounding suburbs book Quinces again for on-time arrivals, professional drivers and the ease of booking.
