Bus Hire in Burwood: School, University, Sports, Community and Event Transport

Group transport for Burwood schools, Deakin University student and staff groups, sports clubs, community outings, corporate teams and event guests, plus airport transfers, from an Oakleigh depot about 7 km and 11 minutes away.

Why Choose Quinces in Burwood?

Quinces has been running coaches in Melbourne's south-east since 1944. Burwood VIC 3125 is further from the Oakleigh depot than our home suburbs. The depot at 76 Atkinson Street is about 7 km by road from the Deakin University campus at 221 Burwood Highway, roughly 11 minutes without traffic and longer at peak, which the office allows for when planning your pickup time.

The business is part of Australian Transit Group and holds ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) certifications, audited independently each year. Every driver on our roster carries a current Working with Children Check and police clearance, and every vehicle appears on the Safe Transport Victoria Public Register. Quinces is a BusVic member and an accredited bus operator. None of that changes from booking to booking.

Quinces runs Melbourne bus charter and coach hire services across Melbourne's south-east, dispatched from the Oakleigh depot.

Burwood, from the highway out

Burwood VIC 3125 is in the City of Whitehorse, which the council places about 15 km east of Melbourne, and the council notes that the suburb is shared with the City of Monash. For group transport it is easiest to read as one long road with a campus on it. Burwood Highway is the spine of the suburb.

The university end is Deakin's Melbourne Burwood campus at 221 Burwood Highway, which the university calls its busiest campus. Burwood Highway also meets Warrigal Road, about 5 km by road from our depot.

The quieter side of the suburb is residential, with Bennettswood Reserve on Holland Avenue carrying a cricket oval in summer and a football oval in winter. The state's Burwood rail project lists upgrades to the Gardiners Creek Trail.

Take care with names. Several well-known places with Burwood in the name are not in Burwood. Burwood Brickworks and the Burwood One shopping centre are in Burwood East (postcode 3151), a different suburb, and the Burwood railway station on the Alamein line is in Glen Iris. A booking sent to the wrong one is a long way off, so the office confirms the exact address and suburb with every Burwood quote.

Who we move around Burwood

Quinces Coaches transports school groups, university students, sports teams, community groups, aged care residents and event guests across Burwood.

Schools and Families

Quinces runs excursions, camps, interschool sport and end-of-year transport for primary and secondary schools in Burwood and the surrounding Whitehorse and Monash suburbs, from Prep to Year 12. Every vehicle is on the Safe Transport Victoria Public Register, which schools are required to check, and every driver holds a current Working with Children Check (WWC) and police clearance. The office confirms the pickup point with your organiser before the day.

University Students and Staff

Deakin University's Melbourne Burwood campus is the university's busiest campus, and a campus brings a particular kind of booking: orientation days, field trips, placements, sport and society events, and graduation-season travel. Quinces can move student and staff groups between the campus and other sites, either as one-off charters or as a repeating campus shuttle on a set timetable, with pickup points confirmed with your organiser beforehand.

Sport and Recreation

Burwood's club sport runs on council ovals such as Bennettswood Reserve, which has one cricket oval for summer and one football oval for winter. Quinces can move teams to away fixtures, finals, carnivals and presentation nights, usually on weekends. Kit travels in the coach, and clubs that travel most weeks can set up a recurring booking with the office, so each fixture does not have to be quoted separately. The office confirms the pickup point with the club before game day.

Aged Care and Community

Quinces runs day trips, social outings and community transport for aged care residents and community groups in Burwood and across Whitehorse. Groups range from small minibus loads to larger coach bookings, with police-cleared drivers on every run. The office confirms departure and return times at booking, along with mobility needs. Wheelchair-accessible transport can be arranged and is confirmed at the quote stage, so it is planned in from the start.

Events and Corporate Groups

Staff days out, conference delegates, wedding parties and milestone birthdays are all common charter occasions. Quinces runs staff shuttles, off-site days and delegate transfers, and guest shuttles between homes, ceremony sites and reception venues. Minibuses suit smaller parties and coaches suit larger guest lists, and Quinces matches the vehicle to the group once numbers and timings are confirmed, planning the return leg alongside the outbound run.

Charter services

Quinces runs the following charter services for Burwood clients.

Excursions, camps and interschool sport for Burwood schools, plus student and staff groups heading to or from the Deakin campus. Drivers hold a current WWC and police clearance, and every vehicle is on the public register.

Weekend runs for Burwood clubs heading to away fixtures, finals and carnivals. Kit rides with the team, and a club that travels often can ask the office about setting up a recurring booking for the whole season.

Aged Care and Community Transport

Outings and day trips for aged care residents and community groups in Burwood. Drivers are police cleared and WWC checked, and wheelchair-accessible transport can be arranged, with details confirmed when we quote the trip.

Staff shuttles, off-site days and delegate runs from Burwood and the surrounding suburbs to venues across Melbourne. Multi-leg days are quoted as one itinerary, so the group is not rebooked at every stop in the day.

Guest shuttles between Burwood homes, ceremony sites and reception venues in the south-east. Minibuses suit smaller wedding parties, coaches suit bigger guest lists, and the return run is planned before the day.

Group transfers between Burwood and Tullamarine or Avalon, for sports squads, school tours and corporate delegations. Melbourne Airport is about 42 km from our Oakleigh depot and Avalon about 70 km by road.

Day trips from Burwood for community groups, clubs and private parties, picked up and returned to your door, timings agreed first. Destinations include the Yarra Valley, the Mornington Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road.

Burwood landmarks and pickup points

These are Burwood places that work well as a staging point for a charter. For each one, the office confirms where the coach can legally stand and how far the walk is from the door to the kerb.

  • Deakin University, Melbourne Burwood campus, 221 Burwood Highway, including the Deakin University Art Gallery on the campus
  • The tram 75 stop out the front of the Deakin campus on Burwood Highway
  • Bennettswood Reserve on Holland Avenue, with a cricket oval and a football oval
  • The Burwood Highway and Warrigal Road intersection

If your pickup is not on that list, send the address with your quote request and the office confirms the staging point beforehand. That matters most for conference transfers and multi-site days, where one coach may need to make several stops in a day.

Getting a coach in and out of Burwood

There is no railway station in the suburb on Whitehorse council's list of stations. Deakin lists Burwood station on the Alamein line, which Transport Victoria places in Glen Iris, and Jordanville station on the Glen Waverley line, which Transport Victoria places in Mount Waverley, as nearby, and says the nearest major station is Box Hill. On Burwood Highway itself the tram does the work: route 75 runs between Vermont South and Docklands, and Deakin lists a stop directly outside the campus.

The bigger change is underground, and it is coming. Burwood is a Suburban Rail Loop East station site, and the state lists it as under construction, with tunnelling underway and trains planned for 2035. The station will give Deakin a direct train connection for the first time. Construction at the SRL site can affect Burwood Highway, so for a pickup near the works Quinces confirms the staging point close to the date rather than months out.

Deakin says its campus car parks fill quickly at the start of trimesters, so we settle the drop-off point at booking, not on the morning.

Group sizes we fit

Tell us your group size and we will match the right bus. Quinces runs minibuses and coaches, so whether you have a small committee heading out for the day or a full year level on camp, there is a vehicle in the fleet that fits without a second trip or paying for space you do not need.

Groups typically book the following:

  • Small groups: minibuses for wedding parties, small clubs and community committees
  • Mid-size groups: coaches for sports squads, aged care outings and staff days
  • Large groups: touring coaches for school year levels, university events and multi-bus movements
