Group transport for Clayton schools, Monash University shuttles, medical centres, corporate campuses, sports clubs, aged care residents and event guests, plus airport and conference transfers, from an Oakleigh depot 10 minutes away.
Why Choose Quinces in Clayton?
Quinces has been running coaches in Melbourne's south-east since 1944. The depot at 76 Atkinson Street, Oakleigh puts us roughly 10 minutes from Clayton VIC 3168 and its main corporate and institutional precincts by road, and the same Quinces vehicles and drivers service Clayton year after year. The CSIRO Clayton campus, Monash Medical Centre, and the Parkroyal Monash Melbourne have all seen Quinces coaches in their carparks. That familiarity matters when you are coordinating 150 conference delegates, running a school excursion, or moving a residential aged care group on a tight schedule.
The business is part of Australian Transit Group and holds ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) certifications, audited independently each year. Every driver on our roster carries a current Working with Children Check and police clearance, and every vehicle appears on the Safe Transport Victoria Public Register. Quinces is a BusVic member and an accredited bus operator. None of that changes from booking to booking.
Quinces runs Melbourne bus charter and coach hire services across Melbourne's south-east, dispatched from the Oakleigh depot.
Clayton, precinct by precinct
Clayton VIC 3168 sits in the City of Monash, in Melbourne's south-east. For group transport it works less like one suburb and more like four precincts that happen to share a postcode. Each one wants something different from a coach.
Wellington Road and Blackburn Road carry the research and education end: the Monash University campus, the Australian Synchrotron, the CSIRO site on Research Way, and the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication at 151 Wellington Road. The City of Monash places the Clayton Activity Centre "in the heart of the Monash National Employment and Innovation Cluster". In planning language that is a designation. From the driver's seat it is a lot of large institutions packed into a few square kilometres.
Clayton Road carries the health precinct, and further north the shopping strip and the railway station. The Clayton Community Centre at 9-15 Cooke Street, on the corner of Centre Road, holds the library, the aquatics and health club and a theatrette, and it is where the council runs the annual Clayton Festival. The sporting reserves sit out among the houses on Haughton Road and Browns Road.
The precincts do not behave the same way. Campus and hospital work is scheduled and it repeats, which is why so much of it runs as a recurring campus shuttle rather than a one-off booking. Club and community work happens on weekends, with looser timing and more gear to load. Plenty of bookings cross both, and those are really two jobs in one itinerary.

Charter services
Quinces runs the following charter services for Clayton clients, ordered to reflect where demand is heaviest.
Clayton landmarks and pickup points
These are the Clayton addresses that come up most often on a charter booking. Half the work on the day is knowing the site before you get there: where a coach can legally stand, and how far the walk is from the door to the kerb.
- Monash University Clayton campus on Wellington Road, including Robert Blackwood Hall on Scenic Boulevard for graduations and large ceremonies
- Monash Medical Centre and Monash Children's Hospital at 246 Clayton Road, alongside the Monash Health Translation Precinct on the same site
- The Victorian Heart Hospital at 631 Blackburn Road, on the Monash Clayton campus
- The Australian Synchrotron at 800 Blackburn Road and the CSIRO site on Research Way
- The Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication at 151 Wellington Road
- Clayton Community Centre, Clayton Library and the Clayton Aquatics and Health Club at 9-15 Cooke Street, on the corner of Centre Road
- Meade/Clayton Reserve on Haughton Road, home ground of the Clayton Football Club and the Clayton District Cricket Club
- Fregon Reserve on Browns Road
- Clayton railway station and the Clayton Road shopping strip
If your pickup is not on that list, it is still very likely somewhere Quinces has already been. Send the address with your quote request and the office confirms the staging point beforehand. That matters most on multi-day conference transfers, where the same coach comes back to the same door several times.
Getting a coach in and out of Clayton
Clayton has changed shape for a driver over the past few years, and it is about to change again. Both of the suburb's level crossings, at Centre Road and Clayton Road, were removed by lifting the rail line over the road, and the rebuilt Clayton Station opened in April 2018. That took two of the worst hold-ups in the suburb out of the timetable. Anyone who used to build boom gates into a Clayton run can stop.
The next change is already underway. Clayton is a Suburban Rail Loop East station site, and Victoria's Big Build lists it as under construction, with tunnelling in progress and trains planned for 2035. A project that size moves its hoardings around and takes kerb space with it, so for anything staging near the station the office confirms the pickup point close to the date rather than months ahead.
The rest is ordinary road knowledge, and it is the part that decides whether a group waits. Wellington Road and Blackburn Road serve the campus and research end. Clayton Road runs the length of the suburb, through the hospital precinct and the shops, and Centre Road crosses it at the community centre. Carparks at the campus and the hospitals have height limits that rule out the larger vehicles. Kerbside standing along the Clayton Road shops is tight. Several sites want a coach at a specific gate rather than the main entrance. Quinces settles all of that at booking stage, not on the morning.
Group sizes we fit
Tell us your group size and we will match the right bus. Quinces runs minibuses and coaches, so whether you have a small executive group heading to a one-day conference or a large delegation moving between the Monash University campus and a CBD venue, there is a vehicle in the fleet that fits without putting people on a second trip or paying for space you do not need.
Groups typically book the following:
- Small groups: minibuses for corporate teams, medical staff transfers, and wedding parties
- Mid-size groups: coaches for corporate departments, sports teams, and aged care outings
- Large groups: touring coaches for Monash University events, large conference groups, and multi-bus movements
Why Clayton clients choose us
Quinces Coaches is the accredited bus operator Clayton organisations return to because of a combination that is genuinely hard to replicate: depot proximity, institutional familiarity with the suburb's main anchor venues, and a compliance profile that holds up to scrutiny from university procurement teams and aged care governance boards alike.
From the Oakleigh depot it is about 4.6 km by road to the Monash University Clayton campus and about 4.4 km to Monash Medical Centre, roughly 10 minutes outside peak either way. For early morning conference departures and tight transfer windows, that distance matters. Drivers who have run the Monash and CSIRO precincts before know where the pick-up bays are, which carparks have height restrictions, and which entrance to use for a group that needs to be at a specific building.
Trust credentials for Clayton clients:
- Accredited Bus Operator (Victorian bus safety accreditation)
- BusVic member
- Every driver holds a current Working with Children Check and police clearance
- ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 (OHS) certified, audited annually
- All vehicles on the Safe Transport Victoria Public Register
Quinces also runs bus hire in Oakleigh from the same Oakleigh depot.
Accreditation and track record
Quinces is an accredited Victorian bus operator under the Bus Safety Act 2009 and has been moving groups around Melbourne since 1944. Every driver is fully licensed, police cleared, First Aid trained and holds a Working with Children Check.
Clayton clients come back to Quinces for on-time arrivals, professional drivers and the ease of booking, particularly on repeat corporate and institutional runs.
